Mulled Wine & How To Make It

1 litre red wine
200ml orange juice
200ml apple juice
30ml brandy
40g caster sugar
1 cinnamon stick
1 star anise - whole
2 cardamom pods - crushed
1 finger sized piece of fresh ginger - peeled and chopped
1/2 orange - sliced
1 Earl Grey teabag

  1. Place all ingredients in a large non-reactive saucepan
  2. Simmer for 40 minutes - do not boil
  3. Strain and serve warm in a glass suitable for hot drinks
  4. Garnish with a slice of orange
