On Sunday 14th April, Brasserie Blanc in Cheltenham will be hosting a charity dinner proudly supporting the Kambia District Foundation, a non profit organisation dedicated to providing education to the children of Kambia Town, Sierra Leone.
The partnership event will begin at 7pm at a price of £40 per person, with all proceeds from the meal as well as a raffle and auction featuring prizes including London theatre tickets, afternoon tea, F1 tickets and a three course meal at Brasserie Blanc, going towards the charity. Last year the same event raised £8000 for the foundation and we are hoping with your incredible support we can rival this goal. The founders and inspiration behind the charity, Jen David and her husband Simon David, live in Cheltenham and have a close relationship with our Brasserie. The pair say it has always been their favourite restaurant in the town, and it was where they first met, as well as where their children got their first jobs.
Jen has worked for many years as a nurse in Africa, but mainly in Sierra Leone. Having fallen in love with the country and its people they were looking for a way to aid the community as a whole and particularly the education of children in the area of Kambia. In 2017 they were given the opportunity to donate towards some roofing much needed for a temporary primary school structure in the village of Masama and this quickly turned into a full school build project.
Although originally designed to educate around 200 students, over 750 children now attend this free school and with further support, the academic results have been some of the best in Sierra Leone. With the school now groaning at the seams, Simon and Jen have embarked on their next project to build a nursery school in the grounds, freeing up much needed space and allowing the youngest children their own dedicated space to learn and play. This build is now well underway but funds are still needed to kit out the building and to complete the project. We feel privileged at Brasserie Blanc to hopefully play a role in assisting this remarkable project on its route to completion.
